Before every race, drivers are required to read
and sign a 'release of liability'
waiver
that explains the inherent dangers
involved with karting. Once the waiver has been read and signed, drivers
are taught proper kart operation, driving techniques, flag descriptions,
and track rules.
After the drivers are briefed on track
operations, they are outfitted with racing suits and helmets (if
necessary see
rules.) Drivers are then helped into the
karts. Each driver is individually checked to insure the seat is
properly adjusted and seat belts are properly fastened. Then the fun
begins with the start of the race.
Once the racing is underway the drivers are
strictly watched. If any rules are broken the racer(s) will receive one
black flag warning. If the misconduct continues, the driver will receive
a second black flag. After two black flags the driver will be asked to
stop and leave the track area. With one lap to go the racers will
receive a white flag then the checkered flag will indicate the end of
the race and there will be a one lap cool down for the karts and the
racers.
Next, the drivers will slow the karts to a
crawl and enter the pits. Once the karts are at a rest, track operators
will shut off the motors and assist the drivers out of the kart and pit
area.
One unique feature standard on all karts is a
remote speed control and shut-off system. This system allows track
operators total control over individual karts or all the karts at once.
In the event of a spin out, the track operator can shut down all karts
or reduce their speed by one half. The remote controller allows the
track operator to reposition the kart safely. This not only insures the
safety of the track operators, but also the safety of non-suspecting
drivers. The remote kart control system is another precaution that Fast
Lane Raceway has taken to safeguard against injury.
