To create a worthwhile and lasting teambuilding exercise, Fast Lane Raceway focuses on many similarities between kart racing and business operations including communication, teamwork, trust, time management, competitive spirit, respect, planning, decision making, goal setting, problem solving, efficiency, responsibility, self confidence, and leadership. Fast Lane Raceway employs these similarities to teambuilding exercises, providing a lasting experience that employees can put to use in the workplace.
Before a race begins, employees are divided into teams with pit crews and drivers. All teams are then briefed on proper kart operation, track rules, safety precautions, and racing techniques. The teambuilding exercise begins with a explanation of an information packet. The packet covers topics such as course inspection, race diagram, individual job functions, proper kart adjustment, and gear checks. Teams are required to fulfill a set of tasks (predetermined by management that build specific employee strengths). Tasks include individual weakness builders, completing laps blindfolded with help of pit crew, simulate tire changes and fueling during pit stops. Teams are given ½ hour to plan their race strategy and ask questions.
Following the race a post race de-brief summary is held to discuss lesions learned, how racing concepts can be applied and utilized in work place, and an awards ceremony for the top team.
